See below for a what is required for each genre/level.
We have a private Facebook group which allows you to sell/purchase second hand uniform (independent from JMSD) https://www.facebook.com/groups/831498874384786 . Trade Me may also have the correct uniform for sale - www.trademe.co.nz.
Dance Sock Academy Socks
Optional but recommended. Dance Socks are designed to help learn and practice the very important base technique. Socks will be used in lessons and are very useful to continue practice at home. They have 10 visual features used to ensure placement/ alignment is correct. There will be a supply available in studio to use to in lessons but we do recommended to purchase your own pair for practice at home, or if a dancer wishes to have their own pair in lessons. Socks are required for: Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary all levels (not required for Hip Hop) Purchased online from dancesock.co.nz. As Miss Jenna owns Dance Sock Academy, we are able to offer a 30% discount for JMSD students. Please use code ‘JMSD2024’ at checkout.
How to purchase uniforms
1. Order via JMSD. Email jmsd.orders@gmail.com. Miss Charis places the order once payment has been received in to our orders account (separate from fees account). The uniform is then posted to the studio for you to collect. You will receive an email notification once it has arrived. This service costs $10 to cover postage and admin fees. We have some sample uniform sizes available to try on (by request). Please do not take these items home, they are samples only.
2. Ordering uniform online from PW Dancewear. Most items can be ordered online with the exception of Abigail junior ballet dresses and some other items listed in the uniform requirements below. The website has free shipping.
3. Call in to the store. When calling into the store, PW Dance have a list of our requirements on file. Simply state ‘Jenna McKenzie School of Dance’, your dancer’s genre and grade and they will help you. You can call PW on 03 366 4238 to check they have what you require in stock before making the trip to town. PW have most of our uniform with the exception of JMSD Hoodies/Jackets. These are from Kaiapoi Monograms and ordered through JMSD.

Uniform Requirements - Ballet
Ballet Shoes
Pre-School up to Grade 2 wear unblocked ballet slippers with elastic across the instep. Strictly no ribbons for junior grades. Grade 3 and above, ribbons may be attached. We will send you an email when it is time for this.
Where do I purchase ballet shoes?
Ballet shoes can be purchased from PW Dancewear or Stage Door Dance & Street Wear https://www.stagedoorshop.co.nz/ (5 New Regent Street, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch 8011). We highly reccommend getting all dance shoes fitted in-store, especially if it’s your first pair.
Pointe Shoes
Your teacher will send full information when it is time to purchase pointe shoes. It is important you wait
until the teacher has given permission as beginning pointe work too early is very dangerous. We require all students who have been given permission to pass a ‘pre-pointe assessment’ with a dance podiatrist to ensure their safety.
Socks/tights
Ballet tights are recommended. ‘Convertible’ tights are recommended for Grade Two and above. Socks may be worn in warmer weather. Find online here. Limited supply available in studio for purchase.
